The human face of immigration detention

The launch was held at Long Gallery, Stormont, as part of NICRAS's Refugee Week celebrations.

RAG is pleased to announce its new research project, which is designed to give a 'human face' to the practice of immigration detention in Northern Ireland. Refugee Action Group is looking for a talented researcher to help bring this issue to life!
NEW IMMIGRATION DETENTION EMERGENCY HELPLINE
The Refugee Action Group (RAG) is pleased to announce the launch of its out-of-hours Immigration Detention Emergency Helpline which goes live today. RAG aims to be an independent voice advocating on asylum and refugee issues in Northern Ireland.
Any person who is stopped and detained by Immigration Officers in Northern Ireland can now call the free and confidential Helpline number. A trained volunteer will notify the detainee’s family where possible and will contact an Immigration Adviser who may be able to assist the detainee in challenging her/his detention.
RAG campaigns
Refugee Action Group opposes the increasing criminalisation of refugees and we oppose the opening of a permanent Enforcement Office in Northern Ireland.
Asylum seekers
Asylum seekers should not be moved from Northern Ireland to Scotland in order to process their applications, according to a new report.
